Glass Float

Our trip to the coast was to celebrate my aunt’s birthday, she has art in her soul and creates in many mediums so my sis and I gave her a gift of “create your own glass float”. She got to participate in the entire process.

I’m not sure of the temp but it will melt glass in a heartbeat.

Here she twists the colors for a swirl effect.

These are Pigeon Guillmots dating. Found on open ocean except when nesting on rocks.

This is after the date she loses all the feathers on her head not a good look. It’s not for the nest they are not sure why this happens.

But wouldn’t it curb young girls from going too far if this is what happened to them?

Here is a Rhinoceros Auklet the little bump on his beak is for breeding season. I’m sure he is very handsome but maybe he could work on that attitude.

The Tufted Puffin a very popular fellow with a good PR person. He is in full breeding colors.

Hot Yet ?

I'm hiding in my bed room the only cool place in the house yesterday it was 107 in Salem. The door knobs in the house felt warm and when I opened the cupboard I could smell the coffee I guess it was going to brew on its own.

The past week was filled with friends, family, art and fun. We started at Debi's for a play day with paint. I made a hat for my Aunts birthday but mostly had a good time watching the others create colorful sheets of paper.

The next day we went to Edgefield for the Crackedpots show, garden art from recycled materials,this was my favorite piece it was a five foot tall tree.

A little hummer was feeding paying no attention to the hundreds of people walking past.

You know it I had to play with it. This little bird will be made into cards today. A job I can do in the cool room.

Going to the Coast

This little one flew in on a test flight just out of the nest but really could fly very well. Mom was watching and feed her later.

The female generally lays four blue eggs which she incubates almost entirely on her own. The eggs hatch at between 12 and 14 days. They are born without feathers and with their eyes closed. Their parents feed them in the nest until they are ready to leave it at 14 to 16 days of age. Baby robins cannot fly for the first few days after they jump from the nest. Their parents lead them to low shrubs and trees and they gradually learn to climb and jump. Within a day or two their wings grow stronger and they begin to take short flights. Their parents feed them until they have learned to feed themselves. When the young are independent, the parents will usually nest again.

A lovely little frog is living in a hanging pot near the front of my house He was surprised when I watered and jumped up.

Saturday Norm had a dog hunt test and I tagged along with my camera, I took 466 shots and this pup was one of them. I did the Photoshop fun stuff to it. You can click on it to see the detail. I'm on my way to the coast to stay cool and will be back next Monday with some good (I hope) photos.

Art Quilt

The other day I posted a photo of a Cedar Waxwing I took and one after messing with it in Photoshop. I then had a brain storm to print it on fabric, I had a piece of canvas that I painted with gesso and ironed stabilizer on the back for a project from about a year ago, I cut it to 8.5 x 11 and sent it through the printer. Eureka !!! I then stared to print everything in sight, photos and text. I ran out of the canvas so I turned to muslin and did a similar treatment, oh happy days it worked again with only one jam. Yes I had to go to the store for more ink. So now I have all this fabric with my images on it (kinda fun) so I need to make something out of it.

Art Date and other Fun

Last Thursday my art group got together for our annual picnic we ate and laughed and met our new PAC members, we also exchanged banners we made for a swap. They are outside only for the photo and will some day will hang in my new studio.

The next day my PAC friend Leigh came to Salem for a day of art and a visit to Mary Lou Zeek Gallery. Leigh did some sketching while I cut images for cards, we did some dry wool felting and had a good time visiting and watching the wild live in the garden. This is what I started and is in the very beginning stages not even sewn together but that is not the important part “doing is the fun”.

Adobe Photoshop and Birds

Last night I was out at Mc Menamins Edgefield and came upon this beautiful Cedar Waxwing, it must have been no farther away than six feet. I was so excited and had my new camera in hand. The bird was collecting a small dry piece of twig I think for a nest, I watched as it flew into a dense tree.

Today I played with Adobe Photoshop 6.0, it is under $100 and not hard to use. With that said you do have to mess around and play for a bit to find all the tricks it can do. I’m still learning and having fun with it, as you can see I changed the colors drew funky flowers into the background and made the little pink berry's, I added a star to the eye and did a watercolor effect This image will be made into cards.

Happy Independence Day

I had a fun night at the Oregon Garden listening to music viewing flowers and seeing a early fire works show on the 3rd, tonight I'm going to the town of Independence they put on a great party. Happy 4th everyone!

Art Date

My friend Rob the photographer took me and my sister Becky (that has the same camera as I do) out for a fun lesson. We drove around the Silverton area and enjoyed the beauty of the day.

Here we played with the TV "time value" to make the tires blur.

My attention deficit kicked in when I saw this horse.

We ask the land owner permission to camp out on his lawn and wait for the light to change so we could get some shots of this cool tree with the tracks leading to it. I have a lot to learn and I had a ton of trouble with this lesson.

So if all else fails make it into a black and white. It was a great day and I got out of the house/studio and felt like I was creating art, can't beat that!
